The New Sir William Rous Unit at Kingston Hospital

Kingston's new Cancer UnitKingston Hospital's new Cancer Unit

We are delighted to be able to tell you that the building work for the new Sir William Rous Unit at Kingston Hospital is finished. The building is now being commissioned and will be open for patients from June 2008.

Working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust the new unit will bring cancer care and treatment under one roof. The unit will include palliative care clinics and complementary therapy, and for the first time it will be possible to provide outpatient chemotherapy treatment. The Royal Marsden will manage the chemotherapy day suite and Macmillan Cancer Support will manage the information and support service.

Kingston Hospital NHS Trust gratefully thank and acknowledge all of the extremely kind and very generous people who have made over 58,000 donations, which has raised the funding, to make it possible to build and equip this unit. The new unit is a testament to five years of fundraising. To all of our donors we say a huge thank you for their kindness, generosity and commitment to Kingston Hospital. It has been the most magnificent community effort to raise the money for the unit. We will never be able to sufficiently thank all of those who made this possible.

You have made this possible, thank you.

Although we have raised the £4.5 million required to build and equip the new cancer unit we are keeping the Appeal open and will continue to raise money for The Sir William Rous Unit. This is because we are very aware that we will need to constantly update the equipment used in the unit as the treatment of cancer changes with continuous research. Early diagnosis and treatment is essential if cancer is to be combated and the new unit will provide such an approach. That is why it is so important that we continue to fundraise.
